We’re big fans of the Polypipe underfloor heating system at TDL, so we’re very excited to be able to show off the latest addition to the Polypipe family, the patented Polypipe Overlay Plus.
The underfloor heating board is a low-profile system that has been designed to be installed over existing floors. So, if you’re installing underfloor heating in a renovation or new-build project, it is ideal. The new Overlay Plus accommodates all types of floor coverings, whether tiles, carpet or woodblock flooring, and it’s lightweight, rigid and easy to install.
Polypipe tells us that Overlay Plus performs at least 10% better than their Overlay system.

What are Polypipe Overlay Plus panels made from?
The Overlay Plus panels are formed of extruded polystyrene – that’s why they’re so lightweight. This material also has some other great properties, like thermal insulating, decoupling and waterproofing. The panel is composed of two thin layers of fibre-reinforced polymer concrete with a polyester fleece-coated layer on top of a layer of reflective aluminium foil. The aluminium layer is designed to evenly diffuse the heat from the pipes over the surface of the board.
How thick are Polypipe Overlay Plus panels?
The Overlay Plus panels are just 18mm thick, so they can be installed over an existing floor without raising the level too much.
What dimensions are the Overlay Plus panels?
We sell Polypipe Overlay Plus panels measuring 1200mm by 600mm. We offer packs of 10 or 50. (or packs of five and 50 for the Overlay Plus Acoustic).
By the way, when we say that Polypipe Overlay Plus is lightweight, we’re not messing about. The boards weigh just 1.2kg, so you can easily carry a few of them at a time up a flight of stairs. The old Polypipe Overlay boards weigh 10kg each!
How do I cut Polypipe Overlay Plus?
Polypipe Overlay Plus panels slice easily with a Stanley knife so you can cut the boards to exactly the right size.
Does Polypipe Overlay Plus help with soundproofing?
Overlay Plus Acoustic will reduce transmission of impact noise. It has a layer of synthetic rubber on the bottom side.
Is Polypipe Overlay Plus okay in high traffic areas?
We asked Polypipe if Overlay Plus would work in a high-traffic area, and they assured us that the system is designed for use anywhere in the house.
Can you DIY a Polypipe Overlay Plus installation?
Installation of an underfloor heating system is best done by a Polypipe Registered installer. But one of the great advantages of Polypipe is that it is easy to install, so your installation quote, and the time needed, will reflect this.
How much does it cost to install Polypipe Overlay Plus?
The best way to find out the installation cost of a Polypipe Overlay Plus system is to get quotes from three Polypipe Registered Installers. You can get an idea of the material costs by using our Polypipe quote service.
